Jan-Frans Eliaerts (Deurne, January 1, 1761 - Antwerp, May 17, 1848) was a Belgian painter. He did his studies at the Royal Academy of Fine Arts in Antwerp and then settled in Paris. He was a professor at the Institut du Legion d'Honneur in the suburb Saint-Denis. He regularly took part in the Paris salons. He also created cartons for woven-presentations in the Gobelin factory. In his old days he returned to Antwerp for living. His flower paintings are similar to the late baroque tradition as developped by Jan van Huysum and Jan-Frans Van Deal. Together with Frederik Pieter Faes and Joris-Frederik Ziesel, he is one of the main representatives of this type of painting in Belgium at the turn of the 19th century. Eliaerts painted some genre pieces, which were always placed in a rich floral decor. His painting was awarded several times with medals (Lille, 1822, silver; Douai in 1827 and 1831, both silver).
